There are some journeys that end when we reach our destination, and then there are journeys that continue to live in our memories long after we return home. For me, an unforgettable journey is not necessarily about visiting the most beautiful place or travelling the longest distance. It is about the emotions, people and little moments that stay with me even after the journey is over.
Whenever I think about an unforgettable journey, I remember how different I felt before leaving. There was excitement, curiosity and a little uncertainty about what was waiting ahead. I had planned certain things in my mind, but the journey taught me that the best moments are often the ones we never plan.
What I remember most are not necessarily the major events. I remember the small things the conversations along the way, the laughter over silly things, the food we shared, the views outside the window and those quiet moments when everyone was simply enjoying the journey. At the time, these moments seemed ordinary. Looking back, they feel incredibly special.
Travelling also gives me a chance to step away from my usual routine. In everyday life, I am often occupied with work, studies, responsibilities and the constant pressure of thinking about what comes next. During a journey, I get to pause for a while. I can simply look outside the window, listen to music, observe new places and allow myself to be present.
One thing I have realised through travelling is that the destination is only one part of the experience. The journey itself has its own story. A wrong turn, an unexpected delay or a sudden change in plans can sometimes become the memory I laugh about later. These unexpected moments remind me that everything does not always have to go according to plan.
I also believe that the people we travel with can completely change a journey. Being with people who make me comfortable, laugh freely and create memories out of ordinary situations makes even a simple trip meaningful.
When the journey finally ends, I may return with photographs and souvenirs, but what I value most are the memories. Sometimes, months or years later, a particular song, photograph or place can suddenly take me back to that moment.
That is what makes a journey unforgettable for me. It is not simply about where I went. It is about who I was during that journey, what I felt, what I learnt and the memories I carried back with me. Some journeys change our surroundings for a few days; the unforgettable ones change something within us.
