The rainy afternoon you left me,
raindrops were dripping
down the windowpane.
I was walking down the same street
we had once walked together.
The flowers we used to greet every day
hung their heads, looking lonely.
The harbour where we used to sit and talk
roared as waves crashed at its feet.
The church bells that rang
every time we cycled by
stood silent, rigid and still.
Because it was the afternoon
you left me.
