Privacy Policy
Effective July 31, 2026
This policy explains what information Quotethought collects, how we use it, and — most importantly — who we do and don't share it with.
Information we collect
When you create an account, we collect your email address, username, full name, and password (stored as a one-way hash — we never store or can see your actual password).
When you use the app, we store the content you create — quotes, articles, comments, reposts, likes, bookmarks, follows — along with basic usage metadata like when it was created and, for rate-limiting and abuse prevention, the IP address a request came from.
If you add a bio, website link, or profile photo, that’s stored as part of your profile. Uploaded images are re-encoded on our servers, which strips any hidden metadata (like location data a photo might contain) before it’s stored.
How we use your information
We use your information to operate the core features of the app: showing your content to the right audience, powering your feed, sending you notifications for things like likes and comments, and letting you sign in securely.
We use your email address only for account-related purposes — password reset emails and, if you request it, account support — never for marketing.
Data sharing policy
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We have no ad network or ad-tracking integration in the app at all.
We share data only with the service providers that help us run the platform, and only to the extent needed for them to do that job:
MongoDB Atlas — our database host, where your account and content are stored.
Resend — our transactional email provider, used only to deliver password-reset emails to the address you registered with.
Public vs. private content
Quotes and articles you publish as "public" are visible to anyone, including people who aren’t logged in, and may appear in search engine results.
Content you mark "private" is visible only to you (and an accepted co-author, if you’ve added one) — it’s excluded from feeds, search, comments, and our public sitemap. Draft content that hasn’t been published yet is likewise visible only to you.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your account and content for as long as your account is active. If you’d like your account or specific content deleted, contact us at the email below and we’ll take care of it.
Your choices
You can edit or delete your quotes, articles, and comments at any time from within the app. You can control whether new posts default to public or private in Settings, and you can block accounts you don’t want to interact with you.
Children’s privacy
Quotethought is not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change to how we handle your data, we’ll update this page. Checking back here periodically is the best way to stay informed.
